Gentlemen,

“Today is a memorable day in the history of sound”.

This headline appears today above a full-page advertisement that Philips has placed in every Dutch newspaper.

For we would like everyone to know that today the Philips Compact Disc System officially makes its debut in
the Netherlands, so that the Dutch consumer knows that he can listen to and order this phenomenon from you.

On this memorable day, it is good to pause once again to reflect on some historical Compact Disc dates:

  • March 1979 : The announcement to the world of the development of the Philips Compact Disc System.
  • Early 1981 : The acceptance of the system as a global standard by the entire Audio software and hardware industry is a fact.
  • September 1982 : The first introduction of the Dutch public to the Philips Compact Disc System at the Firato.
  • December 1982  through Feb. 1982 : The deployment of Philips Compact Disc demonstration units at HiFi specialty stores.
  • March 1983 : The start of the official sale of the Philips Compact Disc System to the Dutch public.

We are proud that 4 years after development in our
laboratory, the Philips Compact Disc players can now be delivered to the Dutch consumer.

Therefore, from now on, the slogan in the Dutch HiFi world is:

“Philips Compact Disc, pure, untouchable sound”.

Starting today, we will be shipping 2 models, namely:

  • CD 100  –  f1. 1,995.– incl. VAT – f1. 1,268.– excl. VAT
  • CD 200  –  f1. 1,995.– incl. VAT – f1. 1,268.– excl. VAT

 

Given the enormous interest from the trade and the public in the Philips Compact Disc players, we will initially not be able to fully meet the demand upon delivery.

We wish you every success with the sale of the Philips Compact Disc players.
