SYSTEM DESCRIPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

The information contained in the pit structures on the disc is converted to a\u00a0coded input signal via the Optical Pick-up Unit.\u00a0This signal is amplified and\u00a0filtered to remove the low frequency tracking information and to equalise the\u00a0frequency response.<\/p>\n

The M4290 DEMOD<\/strong> re-generates the data rate bit clock and timing signals from the H.F. input signal.\u00a0This EFM modulated signal is decoded into a N.R.Z. form and the subcoding data extracted and fed to the external Subcoding Microprocessor. The decoded 8 bit data symbols are fed serially into the Error Corrector I.C. together with timing signals<\/p>\n

The M4280 ERCO<\/strong> corrects up\u00a0to two erroneous symbols per fruze in the data receive from DEMOD \u00a0The necessary de-interleacing\u00a0to\u00a0obtain the\u00a0required data format is\u00a0achieved by writing out the data in 8 bit parallel symbols to an external RAM\u00a0and then reading it back\u00a0in a defined sequence.\u00a0After\u00a0all possible corrections\u00a0have been made the\u00a0data is.\u00a0fed out of ERCO in a 16 bit serial format.\u00a0A further\u00a0function of ERCO \u00a0is to re-synchronise the data to a steady 2.1168Mhz clock rate\u00a0derived from a 4.2336MHz\u00a0crystal oscillator on the CIM I.C.\u00a0This removes any\u00a0jitter from the data while further operations eliminate wow and flutter\u00a0any F.M. \u00a0content in the data signal.\u00a0If\u00a0plus\u00a0the ERCO is unable to correct error\u00a0bits then the uncorrected data is passed to CIM together with an Unreliable\u00a0Data warning\u00a0signal.<\/p>\n

The M4300 CIM<\/strong> accepts the 16 bit serial data and acts in such a way that,\u00a0if the\u00a0Unreliable Data signal is received,\u00a0the effect of the errors is minimised.\u00a0If\u00a0the\u00a0error results in a single unreliable sample then this is interpolated by\u00a0replacing it by a new sample\u00a0whose\u00a0value\u00a0is calculated from\u00a0the\u00a0values of the\u00a0good sample immediately preceding it and that succeeding it.\u00a0If a string\u00a0of unreliable samples is\u00a0samples\u00a0with\u00a0received then the output is muted by replacing unreliable zero value samples and reducing the value of the thirty samples\u00a0preceding and succeeding them to smooth out the effects of the transition.\u00a0The\u00a0output\u00a0of CIM is slit into fourteen or sixteen bit stereo left or right data in\u00a0Offset Binary or Twos Compliment format.<\/p>\n

The M4550 FIL<\/strong> is a digital interpolating filter which improves the signal to\u00a0noise ratio.\u00a0It also enables a simpler analogue filter to be used after the\u00a0Digital to Analogue Converter (DAC).\u00a0The M4550 is a low pass digital transversal\u00a0filter with 96 taps.\u00a0The stereo out put is organised in serial fourteen bit\u00a0samples with the M.S.B. first.\u00a0It is switchable between Offset Binary and Twos\u00a0Compliment code.\u00a0The output sample frequency is 176.4KHz which is four times the\u00a0input sampling frequency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
